Stone Sharp Academy ("Stone Sharp Academy", "we", "us", "our") provides tutoring, scheduling, and educational worksheet services to families in Canada through our website and web applications (the "Services"). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how we handle it, and your rights.
We are based in Alberta, Canada, and handle personal information under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). As of June 2026, PIPEDA remains the operative federal privacy law; the proposed Consumer Privacy Protection Act (Bill C-27) has not been enacted. Stone Sharp Academy currently operates as a sole proprietorship and expects to incorporate later in 2026; this policy will be updated to name the incorporated entity at that time.
Our clients are primarily parents and guardians arranging tutoring for their children, the students who receive tutoring, and the tutors who deliver it.
Children's information. Many of our students are minors. Accounts are created and controlled by a parent or guardian, who consents on the child's behalf. Students do not create their own accounts or sign in directly. We collect only the student information needed to deliver tutoring, and we never use a child's information for advertising or marketing or share it with advertising networks. Parents/guardians may review, correct, or delete their child's information by contacting us (see "How to reach us").
You provide to us:

Collected automatically:
We rely on your consent (given by the parent/guardian for a child's information) and the reasonable purposes permitted under PIPEDA/PIPA. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits (e.g., we must retain payment records for tax purposes).
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that process data on our behalf (below), when you direct us to, to comply with the law or protect rights and safety, and in connection with a business transfer (with notice as required by law).
Advertising and marketing pixels (see Cookies) share information about adult users with Meta (Facebook/Instagram). Children's data is never shared with advertising partners.
Children are excluded: ad pixels run only on public marketing pages — never within the signed-in student experience — and no student/child data is shared with advertising networks. Adults can control cookies via browser settings and adjust ad personalization in their Facebook/Instagram ad preferences.
Each processes only the data needed for its function and is contractually bound to handle it securely:
ca-central-1).Our primary database is hosted in Canada. Some service providers are based in the United States or operate globally, so some personal information may be stored or processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by foreign authorities. We use reputable providers, rely on their contractual and security commitments, and remain accountable for how they handle your information.
Subject to PIPEDA/PIPA, you may request access to the information we hold about you (or your child), correct inaccurate information, withdraw consent, request deletion of information we are not required to keep, and opt out of marketing. To exercise these, contact us (below); we may verify your identity, and for a child's information confirm you are the parent/guardian on the account. We respond within the timeframe required by law (generally 30 days). If unresolved, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Financial and enrolment records are kept as long as Canadian tax law requires (generally 6–7 years). Inactive accounts are reviewed after 24 months and may be deleted or anonymized (other than records we must keep by law). You may request earlier deletion at any time, subject to information we are legally required to retain.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information — including encryption in transit, access controls, reputable infrastructure providers, and error monitoring. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to those who need it.
